John Florence Wins Volcom Pipe Pro 2012

by Guerrilla Surf on February 5, 2012

john florenceIn what will go down in surfing competition history, the Volcom Pipe Pro 2012 contest will be talked about for many years to come.  The epic conditions during the final day drama will mark this year’s contest.

Congratulations to John John Florence for winning the Volcom Pipe Pro 2012.  John John pulled a win out of his bag of tricks in Slateresque fashion by scoring a perfect 10 and a 9.93 in the dying seconds to win his second Pipe Pro in a row.  The drama was all time as Jamie O’ Brien had a strangle hold on the final until John John paddled into a Pipe bomb and then scored a backdoor barrel to pull off the impossible.  John John won the final with a 19.93 two-wave total to Jamie O’Brien’s 19.40, Kai Barger’s 18.20 and Nathan Yeomans’ 7.57.

John John Florence is making a statement with his precision surfing and cool carefree style at this world-class break.  Pipe is in his backyard and each contest at Pipe he shows the surfing world what experience can produce.  Most of us do not have Pipe in our backyard so surfing there is a travel spot and not a place that we can just wake up and paddle out to.  John John Florence has been surfing Pipe since a very young age and it shows with his fearless execution of Pipe bombs and Backdoor pits.

The 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro will be remembered for the carnage and huge conditions in the middle of the contest to the John John heroics in the closing seconds of the final.  Thank you to all the surfers for putting on an amazing show.  This contest was ‘EPIC’ in every sense of the word.
